Yes, getting adequate protein and carbs post-workout is important. No, it doesn't have to come in the form of a protein shake. But it is easy and convenient, which is why many athletes choose to have one - especially for those whose calorie intake is well above what I could ever dream of eating.
Why a double protein shake?? Because I had an early morning workout, so I said "hello" to the carbs, and planned to get the majority of my protein post-workout. Which means I had to make up for the protein I would've had at breakfast plus the protein I need post-workout. And so this Choconana Double Protein Smoothie was born.
There's only 5 ingredients and it delivers a whopping 37 grams protein (unless you make it with milk - then tack on 4 more grams!) in a delicious package.
Choconana Double Protein Smoothie
2 scoops unflavored protein powder (I use whey)
2 tsp cocoa powder
1/2 cup water or milk
5-6 ice cubes
Add ingredients to blender (I've noticed ice first works pretty well), and blend until no more chunks!
